A large supermarket in Jung-gu, Seoul will open on Sundays starting from the fourth week of this month. According to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy on the 15th, Jung-gu, Seoul finalized a revised notice the day before to change the mandatory closure days for large supermarkets from the second and fourth Sundays of each month to the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month.

Accordingly, residents in this area will be able to visit two large supermarkets (Lotte Mart Zeta Plex Seoul Station Branch and E-Mart Cheonggyecheon Branch) and two semi-large stores (Homeplus Express Sindang Branch and No Brand Dongdaemun Doota Mall Branch) every weekend.

Since the launch of the current government, several local governments including Daegu and Cheongju, Seocho-gu and Dongdaemun-gu in Seoul, Busan, and Uijeongbu have switched their mandatory closure days to weekdays.

Jung-gu, Seoul became the third local government in the Seoul area to switch its mandatory closure days to weekdays. The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy explained, "Despite Jung-gu being an area with many traditional markets, it was able to change the mandatory closure days through efforts for coexistence between large supermarkets and small and medium-sized retailers," adding, "The ministry has maintained close communication throughout the process of switching Jung-gu’s mandatory closure days to weekdays."

The ministry stated that it will continue to provide policy support so that the switch to weekday mandatory closure days can continue to spread to other local governments.
