Uijeongbu-si, which has long been limited in development as a military city, is now taking concrete steps toward transformation as a corporate city.

On the 14th, Uijeongbu-si successfully held the ‘2024 Corporate Attraction Briefing Session’ at Uijeongbu Culture Station Ieum.

The briefing session was attended by about 100 businesspeople, including investors such as SM Town Planner, Joinsland, and Maston Investment Management, as well as companies like Seegene Bio, Cube Medical, and SIT Technology, who showed great interest in Uijeongbu-si’s locational advantages and development potential.

In particular, the city included a site tour of the US military return land, which is rarely seen in other local government briefing sessions, allowing corporate officials to directly visit Camp Jackson, which is usually difficult to access, and experience the practical location environment and investment potential.

The US military return land is presented by the city as the ‘Land of Opportunity,’ and through this site tour, it demonstrated its potential as a future hub for advanced industries and a bio cluster.

The briefing session began with a promotional video, followed by Mayor Kim Dong-geun announcing various support policies, expressing his commitment to establishing a foundation for companies to grow stably.

Key policies include △promotion of designation as an economic free zone for financial incentives △creation of a 10 billion KRW scale future industry development fund △establishment of an AI-based future industry ecosystem.

These plans are part of a long-term strategy to strengthen competitiveness with other cities and position Uijeongbu-si as the economic center of northern Gyeonggi Province.

The following presentation by Moon Mi-seong, senior researcher at the Gyeonggi Research Institute, titled ‘Northern Gyeonggi Economic Hub, Uijeongbu,’ attracted attention. Additionally, Uijeongbu Urban Corporation’s plans for Camp Jackson and Camp Kyle, which had been shrouded in secrecy, were announced, resolving corporate officials’ questions.

A corporate official who attended the event said, “I used to feel Uijeongbu was somewhat far, but its proximity to Seoul and excellent accessibility came as a new discovery,” adding, “Through the site tour, I was able to directly check the location environment and rediscover the charm of Uijeongbu-si.”

Mayor Kim Dong-geun said, “We are prioritizing corporate attraction and taking steps beyond today’s Uijeongbu to create a better future,” and added, “We will spare no support so that companies can grow together at the center of this change.”

Uijeongbu-si plans to further specify its efforts toward corporate attraction and its leap as a hub for advanced industries, using this briefing session as a turning point. The future of Uijeongbu-si, aiming to grow as a new economic hub in northern Gyeonggi, is drawing attention.
