On the 13th (local time), German dpa news agency reported that RM Sotheby's, a classic car auction house in New York, USA, will auction the 2006 Ferrari 248 F1 model driven by Schumacher on the 14th. Schumacher, who is from Germany, drove the Ferrari up for auction this time as part of the 2006 season racing team 'Scuderia Ferrari' and retired after winning a total of five times. It was his last season with Ferrari, during which he won five Grand Prix races including San Marino, Europe, United States, France, and Germany.

Afterwards, this vehicle was purchased from Ferrari by an anonymous collector in December 2007. dpa reported that the collector occasionally test-drove the car but had not raced it on the track for over 10 years. Schumacher, who made his F1 debut at the 1991 Belgian Grand Prix, won the overall championship seven times in his career. He retired after the 2006 Brazilian Grand Prix but returned to racing for three more years starting in the 2010 season with 'Mercedes GP'. However, Schumacher has not appeared publicly since suffering a severe head injury in a skiing accident in December 2013.

Meanwhile, Ferrari is known for fetching high prices at auctions. On November 13 last year, a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO sports car was sold for $51.7 million (approximately 68.3 billion KRW at the time) at a Sotheby's auction held in New York, USA. This car, exported to the United States in the late 1960s, underwent restoration and modification through several owners. AFP news agency reported that the car reappeared after 38 years since being purchased by a collector in Ohio, USA, in 1985. This car is recorded as the second most expensive sports car in the world, while the most expensive sports car ever sold at auction is the '1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe,' which found a new owner for 135 million euros (approximately 183.7 billion KRW) in 2022.

Previously, the Ferrari Schumacher drove in the 2003 season was also sold for nearly 15 million euros (approximately 22.3 billion KRW) at a 2022 auction.
