Seongbuk-gu, Seoul held a large-scale citizen report meeting on the 14th at the district office art hall to spread public consensus and unite determination to urge the resumption of the suspended Gangbuk Transversal Line project. Provided by Seongbuk-gu.
At the report meeting, participants jointly signed a large petition urging the re-promotion of the Gangbuk Transversal Line, conveying Seongbuk-gu’s passion and determination for the project.
Previously, the district conducted a ‘Gangbuk Transversal Line Rapid Re-promotion Urging Citizen Signature Campaign’ starting from the 18th of last month, collecting 260,000 signatures in less than a month. This number accounts for 60% of Seongbuk-gu’s 430,000 residents.
The district views the Gangbuk Transversal Line as an essential project for improving transportation conditions between northeastern and southwestern Seoul and for balanced regional development. This route is a long line extending 25.72 km, passing east to west through seven autonomous districts including Cheongnyangni, Jongam, Gireum, Jeongneung, and Mok-dong, and was planned as a 2 trillion won Seoul city financial project. Based on Jeongneung in Seongbuk-gu, travel times are expected to be reduced by 30%, such as 9 minutes to Cheongnyangni and 30 minutes to Mok-dong. It will also connect with four lines?Jeongneung Station (Ui-Sinseol Line), Gireum Station (Line 4), Jongam Station (Dongbuk Line), and Wolgok Station (Line 6)?raising expectations for significant ripple effects.
The district plans to strongly convey the aspirations of Seongbuk residents, including the large petition from the report meeting, to the Seoul city government and the national government, and to focus administrative efforts on the re-promotion of the project.
Mayor Lee Seung-ro stated, “For the future of Seongbuk-gu, we will continue to cooperate with Seoul city and do our best to ensure that the Gangbuk Transversal Line is realized.”
