Nowon-gu Women's Choir Wins Prime Minister's Award at National Choir Competition
Leading Amateur Choir Culture... Nowon-gu Women's Choir's Consecutive Award Streak

Nowon-gu, Seoul (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that the Nowon-gu Women's Choir won the grand prize at the '26th Prime Minister's National Choir Competition.'


Hosted by Daejeon Metropolitan City, the '26th Prime Minister's National Choir Competition' is a prestigious amateur choir contest leading the domestic amateur choir culture.


The Nowon-gu Women's Choir competed against 16 teams that passed the national preliminaries in the final round held on the 9th at the KAIST Auditorium Performance Hall and ultimately won the grand prize, equivalent to the Prime Minister's Award.


In particular, the Nowon-gu Choir showcased outstanding skills, following numerous awards such as the Excellence Award in the General Division at the 2nd Namdo Choir Competition, first place in the Folk Music A Cappella category at the 2023 Gangneung World Choir Competition, and the Silver Award at the 17th Geoje National Choir Competition.

Seo Hyo-jung, conductor of the Nowon-gu Women's Choir, said, "I am pleased to have achieved good results in this competition," and added, "We will continue to contribute to the development of local culture and arts through various activities to meet the expectations of Nowon-gu residents."


Since its founding in 1989, the 'Nowon-gu Women's Choir' has served as Nowon-gu's representative cultural ambassador for over 30 years, providing opportunities for communication through music to marginalized neighbors and playing the role of a music volunteer group that inspires hope and courage among residents.


Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, said, "I am very pleased that the Nowon-gu Women's Choir has achieved an honorable result in the national competition," and added, "I hope they will continue to bring happiness to the residents through music and enhance Nowon-gu's cultural and artistic pride."
