Song Chi-hyung, chairman of Dunamu, which operates 'Upbit,' the No. 1 virtual asset exchange in Korea, emphasized on the 14th that "blockchain is no longer an invisible technology."
At the 'Upbit D Conference (UDC),' a domestic blockchain event held on the 14th at the Shilla Hotel in Jung-gu, Seoul, Chairman Song stated, "The activation of Real-World Assets (RWA), the approval of Bitcoin and Ethereum spot Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs) in the global market, and NFT tickets are bringing the real-world changes created by blockchain closer," emphasizing this point.
Chairman Song also stressed, "Although there are still doubts and various challenges regarding blockchain, it is being directly applied to real-world finance worldwide and institutionalized legally and policy-wise," adding, "Blockchain is being utilized not only in technology but also in various fields such as telecommunications, distribution, and manufacturing."
He continued, "Interest in blockchain is rising not only in major existing countries but also in the Middle East and Asia," adding, "The recent rapid development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) also raises expectations for innovative synergy with blockchain."
Chairman Song stated, "In Korea, the 'Virtual Asset User Protection Act' was enacted in July this year, marking the beginning of institutionalization," and added, "As the government actively supports blockchain businesses, blockchain is increasingly recognized as a valuable future industry."
The UDC is a forum where global blockchain experts discuss the latest technology trends and the future of the industry. It is an event hosted by Dunamu since 2018 and is now in its seventh year.
This year’s theme is 'Blockchain: The Power to Change Reality.' It explores the trend of blockchain expanding into various industries and transforming reality through topics such as ▲Trend ▲Finance ▲Policy ▲Technology ▲Culture.
The first keynote stage featured a dialogue between Michael Casey, former chairman of CoinDesk Consensus, and Lee Seok-woo, CEO of Dunamu. Chairman Michael Casey and CEO Lee discussed the future direction and characteristics of blockchain, including the spread of Web3, convergence with AI technology, and innovation in traditional finance.
At the event, comprehensive discussions were held on recent hot topics such as banking trends gaining attention after the advent of the Bitcoin spot ETF era, regulatory directions conveyed by policy officials from various countries, and Web3 era customized security presented by blockchain security experts.
