Seodongha (34), who killed his ex-girlfriend in front of his mother and seriously injured his mother, has had his personal information disclosed.
On the 14th, the Gyeongbuk Provincial Police Agency announced that, following the decision of the personal information disclosure review committee, the name, age, and photo of Seodongha, the perpetrator of the ex-girlfriend murder case, were made public on their website from 9 a.m. for 30 days. The committee reportedly made this decision considering △ the brutality of the crime where the victim was killed in front of her mother and the severity of the damage △ sufficient securing of personal and physical evidence including the suspect’s confession △ and the preventive effect on stalking crimes.
The police explained that the photo of Seodongha released on this day was a mugshot taken by the investigative agency on the afternoon of the 13th, after the decision to disclose personal information was made, for the purpose of recording the criminal’s appearance. Regarding why he was not wearing a prison uniform despite being detained, they said, "He is still held in the police station detention center and has not yet been transferred to the detention facility."
Seodongha is the third case in which the Gyeongbuk police have disclosed a suspect’s personal information. The first disclosure was in June 2020 for Moon Hyung-wook, known as 'GodGod' in the Nth Room case. Unlike Yang Gwang-jun (38), a military officer whose personal information was recently disclosed by the Gangwon Provincial Police Agency, Seodongha did not request any legal procedures such as filing objections.
Earlier, Seodongha was arrested on suspicion of killing his ex-girlfriend A (36) around noon on the 8th in the hallway of an apartment located in Gumi. It is known that A’s mother, who was present at the scene, also suffered serious injuries from the knife wielded by him. After committing the crime, Seodongha directly reported it to the 112 emergency call center, and although A was transported to the hospital, she eventually died.
Seodongha and A were understood to have dated for about four months starting early this year before their relationship deteriorated. Since then, A reported to the police three times from July that she was a victim of stalking by Seodongha. Accordingly, from August, Seodongha was summoned by the police and completed a correctional program operated by a specialized counseling institution for stalking offenders once a week for a total of five sessions. It was also confirmed that two days before the incident, he received a provisional court order prohibiting him from approaching within 100 meters of the victim’s residence and from contacting her.
