The 'Korea Sports Promotion Award' was established in 2019 to recognize outstanding contributors in various fields related to sports, including sports organizations, companies and brands, local governments, athletes, and clubs, who have contributed to the development and revitalization of sports in South Korea.
The city was recognized and awarded for its contributions to the promotion of professional and recreational sports through △ operation of age-specific customized sports programs △ creation of public sports facilities utilizing idle land △ active use of local infrastructure to meet the demand for sports facilities △ attracting professional sports and large-scale performances using existing public sports facilities.
Kim Jong-gu, Director of the Education and Culture Bureau, who attended on behalf of Mayor Lee Dong-hwan, stated, “This award is the result of the joint efforts of Goyang city’s sports organizations, citizens, and related officials who have tirelessly worked to revitalize recreational sports. As citizens’ interest in recreational sports has increased, we will do our best to expand the base of recreational sports by utilizing the nation’s best recreational sports infrastructure, foster elite and professional sports, and attract large-scale performances so that Goyang Special City can emerge as the center of sports in South Korea.”
