Tokyo Electron is a leading Japanese semiconductor equipment company, ranking 4th in the global semiconductor equipment market by sales. It holds the top 1 or 2 global market shares in eight product categories, including film deposition equipment and cleaning equipment used for wafers. The company entered the Korean market by establishing its Korean subsidiary in Jang-an-myeon, Hwaseong in 2006.
Earlier in January, the company also secured 27,032㎡ within the Wonsam General Industrial Complex, located in Jukneung-ri, Wonsam-myeon, Cheoin-gu, Yongin, where it is building a research and development (R&D) center.
As the global semiconductor equipment company Tokyo Electron Korea expands its business site to Yongin, it is expected to strengthen the L-shaped semiconductor belt envisioned by Yongin City. The 2nd Yongin Technovalley, where the company will be located, is managed by J Yongin Technovalley Co., Ltd., a special purpose company (SPC) jointly invested by Yongin Urban Corporation and Hanwha Solutions. The Idong and Namsa Advanced System Semiconductor National Industrial Complex, where Samsung Electronics’ production lines will be established, and the SK Hynix Yongin Semiconductor Cluster General Industrial Complex are located 10 to 15 km away, creating synergy effects for building a semiconductor ecosystem in the area.
A city official stated, "At this important time when the city is growing into a global semiconductor hub, the confirmation of an excellent company like Tokyo Electron Korea moving into the 2nd Yongin Technovalley is expected to play a significant role in industrial development and the creation of quality jobs. We will continue to provide more active administrative support to attract world-class companies."
