Seongdong Life Safety Learning Center Designated as a Children's Safety Education Specialist by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety

Seongdong Life Safety Learning Center, an experiential safety education institution representing Seongdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeong Won-oh), was designated as a ‘Children’s Safety Education Specialized Institution’ by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety last October.

The Ministry of the Interior and Safety designates and operates educational institutions with professional qualifications as ‘Children’s Safety Education Specialized Institutions’ to provide effective education for workers at children’s facilities. According to the Act on Safety Management of Children’s Facilities, workers at children’s facilities must complete children’s safety education, including emergency first aid practice.

With Seongdong Life Safety Learning Center designated as a ‘Children’s Safety Education Specialized Institution,’ about 2,000 workers at children’s facilities such as daycare centers, schools, and academies in the area can complete the legally mandated education free of charge at the center.

In particular, since the education can be conveniently received near their residence, it is expected that the satisfaction of trainees will be high.

Prior to this, in July, Seongdong Life Safety Learning Center hired two Level 1 paramedics as professional instructors to provide more specialized education. Teaching aids such as pediatric mannequins were also reinforced to operate high-quality educational programs.

Safety practical training for workers at children’s facilities is held every Tuesday and Thursday, and applications for the training can be made through the quick reservation service on the Seongdong-gu Office website.

Seongdong Life Safety Learning Center, opened in 2015 as Seoul’s first regional comprehensive safety experience center, operates experiential programs such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation, fire extinguisher and emergency escape device usage, earthquake simulation, and ship escape to actively respond to various disasters and protect oneself from accidents that may occur in daily life.

Additionally, it provides visiting safety education for vulnerable groups such as schools and welfare facilities, and operates online safety education by guiding disaster response actions through Instagram, YouTube, and other platforms.

In the future, new programs tailored to new types of disasters, such as virtual reality (VR) crowd control training, will also be developed and offered.

In May, it was also designated by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety as an ‘Autonomous Participation Civil Defense Education Recognized Safety Experience Center.’ Seongdong Life Safety Learning Center will conduct additional special training in December for Seongdong-gu civil defense members who have not completed the training by November. The training will be conducted as experiential safety education including emergency first aid, and upon completion, it will be recognized as having completed civil defense education.
