Delayed Announcement Beyond Scheduled Date
"Disrespectful to Both Fans and the Deceased" Backlash
Idol group TWICE postponed their new album promotion schedule due to the sad news of actor Song Jae-rim's passing.
On the 13th, JYP Entertainment announced through TWICE's official social media accounts, "Due to unfortunate news, Concept Photo#1, which was scheduled to be released at midnight on the 13th, will now be released at midnight on the 14th. We ask for the understanding of ONCE (TWICE's fandom name)."
TWICE had been sequentially releasing various content ahead of their album release next month. Although the concept photo was also scheduled to be released on this day, it appears the promotion schedule was postponed due to the news of actor Song Jae-rim's death.
Fans' reactions were mixed. The issue was that the announcement was made only close to the scheduled release time. Fans commented, "If it was because of the obituary, the notice should have been posted before midnight. If it had been posted earlier, fans would have understood," "The news of the deceased was known the day before, so why wasn't it announced earlier?" "Maybe they didn't post it because the entertainment industry itself is in a mourning atmosphere. Why bring this up so late..." "Posting the notice later than planned while mentioning the deceased is also disrespectful," they said.
Song Jae-rim was found dead with a suicide note around 12:30 PM on the 12th at his home in Seongdong-gu, Seoul. The funeral hall is set up at Yeouido St. Mary's Hospital, and the funeral will be held at noon on the 14th. The burial site is Seoul Municipal Crematorium.
Born in 1985, Song Jae-rim debuted in 2009 with the film Actresses and actively appeared in dramas such as The Moon Embracing the Sun, Two Weeks, Inspiring Generation, Bad Woman, Our Gap-soon, Clean with Passion for Now, and Woo, Chi-wanghoo. The musical Rose of Versailles, which ended last month, became his final work.
