Buk-gu, Gwangju City is establishing a natural disaster preparedness system to ensure residents' safety in anticipation of the upcoming heavy snow and cold wave, and is making an all-out effort to respond.
According to the district on the 13th, the "Comprehensive Winter Natural Disaster Preparedness Plan" will be fully implemented for five months from December 15 to March 15 of next year.
The district monitors weather conditions in real-time through various channels such as the Disaster Weather Information System and the Smart Disaster Safety Management System to immediately recognize disaster risk situations, and has launched a direct reporting system to the deputy district mayor to ensure prompt on-site response in case of disaster occurrence.
For efficient disaster response, a mutual support system has been established with neighboring local governments and military units, and task forces (TFs) are operated in collaboration with related organizations such as the Northern Fire Station, Northern Police Station, Korea Electric Power Corporation, and Marine Energy according to function.
In the event of heavy snowfall, 111 routes (84 main roads and 27 side roads) and 17 locations vulnerable to icing will be managed using pre-secured snow removal equipment such as dump trucks, wet salt spreaders, and eco-friendly de-icing agents, and a snow removal complaint response plan will also be established and implemented.
Additionally, during cold waves, 101 cold wave reduction facilities and 403 cold wave shelters will be operated to provide refuge for residents, and for vulnerable groups requiring care, support will be provided including winter supplies, and an emergency contact network will be established to frequently check on their well-being and strengthen protection.
