'Digital Administrative Service Public Trust Measures' Progress
One Year Since Local Administrative IT Service Outage... Issue-by-Issue Inspection
DDoS Attack Response System Verified... Cooperation with National Intelligence Service
The government has begun an inspection of the comprehensive measures implemented following the local administrative computer service failure that occurred in November last year. Measures against the recent 'Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS)' attacks targeting government agencies were also discussed.
On the 13th, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety held a meeting on the 'Digital Administrative Service Public Trust Enhancement Measures' at the National Information Resources Service in Daejeon and inspected the operation sites of major government information systems.
This inspection was arranged to confirm the changes after one year of implementing the comprehensive measures following the local administrative computer service failure in November last year and to accelerate the promotion of mid- to long-term tasks. In particular, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety examined whether the grade-based management and service continuity assurance, part of the comprehensive measures, have been well established in the field, whether the computer failure management system has been properly settled, and whether tasks that the public can feel, such as strengthening public guidance, have been properly implemented.
They also inspected key infrastructure such as computer rooms managing servers and network equipment of information systems, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), and checked major sites of the National Information Resources Service, including the Digital Safety Situation Room, which oversees failure control.
As DDoS attacks on government agency websites have been occurring frequently recently, the government plans to respond thoroughly to ensure that the public does not experience inconvenience when using public services. The government is monitoring the status of administrative services such as websites in real time through the Digital Safety Situation Room and is blocking cyberattacks on agencies housed in the National Information Resources Service while cooperating with the National Intelligence Service on related matters.
Ko Gi-dong, Vice Minister of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, said, "We will make efforts to ensure that the failure management system operates not only at the National Information Resources Service but also in individual computer rooms and local governments," adding, "We will faithfully implement mid- to long-term measures such as securing budgets for replacing outdated equipment and passing key legislation in the National Assembly to complete the structural improvement of digital administration."
