People Power Party Leads Commemoration of Jeon Tae-il's 54th Anniversary: "We Will Empathize More with Labor, Human Rights, and Environment"

On the 54th anniversary of the martyr Jeon Tae-il, the People Power Party issued an official condolence statement, and members of the Metropolitan Vision Special Committee paid their respects. This is interpreted as the People Power Party expressing a stronger commitment to empathizing with values such as labor.

Kim Junho, spokesperson for the People Power Party, stated in a commentary on the 13th, "'Comply with the Labor Standards Act! We are not machines! Do not let my death be in vain'?the final cry of the young Jeon Tae-il 54 years ago today still resonates deeply with those of us living today," adding, "We will create a society where the value of labor is respected."

Spokesperson Kim said, "Today's Republic of Korea is possible because of the sweat shed by countless workers," and "The People Power Party and the Yoon Seok-yeol administration will not forget the noble spirit of martyr Jeon Tae-il." He added, "We will work harder to realize the 'ordinary life of workers' that the martyr dreamed of," and "We will build a society where the value of labor is properly respected and where the rights of each and every worker are upheld." Kim also promised to "devote full efforts" to the government's ruling party's initiatives such as the Labor Vulnerable Protection Act, industrial accident prevention, and resolving wage arrears issues.

On the same day, Oh Shin-hwan, chairman of the People Power Party's Metropolitan Vision Special Committee, and other committee members visited the Jeon Tae-il Memorial Hall to pay their respects. Chairman Oh said, "I think the People Power Party should actively respond to values that it has somewhat neglected or had no clear stance on," adding, "While changing the party organization or system is important, the Metropolitan Vision Special Committee was launched to help the People Power Party better empathize with and clarify its position on issues such as labor, environment, and human rights, especially in terms of public sentiment in the metropolitan area and expanding the moderate base."

He continued, "The labor and human rights values of martyr Jeon Tae-il are not a matter of political camps but universal values," and "The Vision Special Committee members intend to pay tribute and express respect for these values, as well as their commitment to creating a society where labor and human rights are respected."

Meanwhile, Jo Guk, leader of the Jo Guk Innovation Party, laid flowers at the Jeon Tae-il statue located in Jongno-gu, Seoul, on the same day.
