TV Chosun 'Ije Honjada' Appearance
"Many Things Happened... Efforts to Overcome"
Ex-Husband Also Involved in Investment Fraud Allegations
Singer Ben (33, real name Lee Eun-young) revealed the reason behind her decision to divorce.
Ben appeared on TV Chosun's "Now I'm Alone" aired on the 12th, sharing her daily life with her daughter Ria and discussing her divorce. She confessed, "During the first year after marriage, we lived sweetly, but as one thing after another happened, we fought a lot. There were so many issues." She continued, "I felt like I became a very easy person," and admitted, "I thought, 'This isn’t why I loved, this isn’t why I gave my heart.'"
Ben said, "I liked babies and wanted to have one quickly," adding, "Even while trying to conceive, I sometimes got upset and argued with my husband during conversations. When things were toughest, I thought, 'Let’s take a break,' so I let everything go and went on a trip, and that’s when Ria was conceived." However, she revealed, "When Ria was six months old, I decided to get a divorce," and confessed, "There were actually so many problems, and I made tremendous efforts to overcome them." She also explained, "In the family I grew up in, the worst thing was lying," and said, "I really hated lies. My trust in my husband completely collapsed." Finally, she added, "I have to make my child happy, but I felt I couldn’t raise her in a complete family, so I decided to divorce."
Previously, Ben publicly revealed her relationship with Director Lee Wook of the W Foundation in 2019 and married him in 2021. She gave birth to her first daughter in February last year, but a year later, in February this year, they separated. At that time, she stated that she decided to divorce because she judged that her ex-husband was at fault. In the past, Director Lee was embroiled in allegations of cryptocurrency-related investment fraud targeting multiple celebrities, with victims including Super Junior’s Yesung, singer Kangnam, and well-known YouTubers. Ben, who obtained custody of her daughter, is currently raising her child alone.
Meanwhile, Ben debuted in 2010 as a member of the group Bebemignon and began her full-fledged solo career in 2012. She released songs such as "Babo-ya," "In Love," "A Night I Want to Drink Alone," and "180 Degrees." She gained fame by singing OSTs for numerous dramas including "Producer," "Oh My Ghost," "Another Miss Oh," "Moonlight Drawn by Clouds," "Mr. Sunshine," "Hotel Del Luna," and "The Red Sleeve Cuff."
