Kimchi-Making Sharing Event at Geumgang Singwan Park on the 16th
Even though the price of napa cabbage has dropped to around 3,000 won per head, other ingredients for kimchi such as radish remain expensive, leading to an increasing number of citizens giving up on making kimchi for the winter. In this context, a kimchi-making and sharing event will be held in Gongju, Chungnam.
The Gongju city government announced on the 13th that it will host a kimchi sharing event at Geumgang Singwan Park on the 16th to spread warmth to neighbors struggling due to the economic downturn and rising prices.
Gongju city, participating farms from Baro Market, and the Gongju Volunteer Center plan to deliver 300 heads of kimchi made on the day to about 50 households of elderly people living alone in the area.
In particular, citizens can participate in the experience event by paying a fee of 10,000 won, which allows them to make two heads of kimchi each. The experience event was available on a first-come, first-served basis and reservations are now closed.
The city plans to use all proceeds from this kimchi-making event to support vulnerable groups in the community who are facing financial difficulties.
Additionally, at the Baro Market Baekje Geumgang branch, a representative direct transaction market in Chungnam, kimchi ingredients will be sold at discounted prices through the "1,000 Won Shop" for two days on the 16th and 17th.
Pre-orders for salted napa cabbage are being accepted until the 14th at a price of 35,000 won for 20kg.
A city official said, "We hope that this kimchi sharing and experience event will bring some warmth to the local community and help our neighbors stay healthy through the winter."
The official added, "It is a very meaningful event as we can share locally made kimchi, prepared with fresh agricultural products produced in our region, at the Baro Market Baekje Geumgang branch."
