Oh Seonghwan, the mayor of Dangjin City in South Chungcheong Province, visited the 2024 public rice procurement site on the 12th to encourage farmers and related personnel.

During his visit to the rice purchasing site, Mayor Oh actively communicated with rice farmers facing difficulties due to unstable rice prices and declining consumption, listening to their concerns.

This year, Dangjin City plans to purchase a total of 11,954 tons of rice: 7,972 tons of dried rice (including other crop quantities), 2,639 tons of fresh rice, and 1,343 tons of rice for flour, receiving the largest allocation among the 15 cities and counties in the province.

The purchase price for public rice reserves will be determined at the end of the year by converting the harvest season (October to December) local rice price into the price of unhulled rice.

Farmers receive an interim payment of 40,000 won per bag immediately after delivering rice for public reserves, with the final settlement made at the end of the year.

Mayor Oh Seonghwan said, "We will do our utmost to ensure the smooth purchase of public rice reserves and help alleviate the difficulties of rice farmers caused by falling rice prices, even if only a little."
