Deliberate Hit-and-Run of Pedestrian
Suspect Arrested on Scene... Prohibition on Incident Distribution
A vehicle ramming incident occurred in Zhuhai, Guangdong Province, where the China International Airshow was held, resulting in 35 deaths. The suspect is reported to have deliberately hit pedestrians and fled but was later arrested by the police.
According to Hong Kong Ming Pao on the 12th, the Zhuhai Public Security Bureau stated, "At around 7:48 PM on the 11th (local time), a serious malicious incident occurred inside the Zhuhai Sports Center," adding, "35 people died and 43 are receiving treatment in hospitals." Chinese public security authorities explained that the suspect, Pan Mo (62, male), drove a small off-road vehicle into the sports center, indiscriminately hitting citizens exercising on the road and then fleeing, before being apprehended by the police.
Additionally, Chinese authorities reported that the suspect injured himself in the vehicle and was transported to the hospital by police but has not regained consciousness, preventing further investigation. The Chinese authorities believe that Pan, who was dissatisfied with the division of assets after a divorce, appears to have caused this incident for that reason.
Chinese authorities have banned the dissemination of information about the incident. Photos and videos of the scene rapidly spread on Chinese social networking services (SNS) such as Weibo the previous day but were soon censored and deleted by the authorities. Currently, related posts cannot be found on Weibo or other Chinese social media platforms.
