Canadian Navy Commander Visits HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Ulsan Headquarters to Inspect Submarine Production Facilities

"We Will Do Our Best to Secure Overseas Defense Industry Contracts"

A senior official of the Canadian Navy, which is promoting a large-scale submarine acquisition project, visited HD Hyundai Heavy Industries.


HD Hyundai Heavy Industries announced that Angus Topshee, Commander of the Canadian Navy, along with officials from Korea's Defense Acquisition Program Administration and Navy Headquarters, visited HD Hyundai Heavy Industries' Ulsan headquarters on the 12th.


Canada is currently conducting the "Canada Patrol Submarine Project (CPSP)" to acquire 8 to 12 submarines of approximately 3,000 tons.

On that day, Angus Topshee, Commander of the Canadian Navy, inspected the main submarines of the Republic of Korea Navy, which are being constructed and undergoing major maintenance by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, and toured the submarine construction facilities and production equipment.


Additionally, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries introduced its plans for the Canadian submarine acquisition project and discussed cooperation measures between the two countries related to research and development and workforce training for the project.


Lee Sang-kyun, CEO of HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, said, "We have the capability to be a partner that plays an important role not only in submarine acquisition projects but also across the entire Canadian naval power," adding, "Since defense projects are directly linked to national interests, we will do our best to cooperate with the government and related industries to secure overseas defense contracts."
