Busan Urban Corporation President Kim Yong-hak Receives Plaque of Appreciation from Korea Association of Persons with Physical Disabilities Central President

Contributing to the Improvement of Rights and Welfare Enhancement for Persons with Disabilities

Busan Metropolitan Corporation (BMC, President Kim Yong-hak) announced that it received a plaque of appreciation from the President of the Korea Disabled Persons Association Central Headquarters at the ‘2024 Busan Disabled Persons Unity Festival’ held on the 31st of last month, in recognition of its contributions to improving the human rights and welfare of people with disabilities.

Since his inauguration, Kim Yong-hak, President of Busan Metropolitan Corporation, has selected as core ESG management initiatives ▲Barrier Free (environmental design without obstacles) ▲Crime Free (crime prevention environmental design) ▲Fire Free (expanded design applying efficient evacuation equipment), applying these to apartment complexes to lead efforts so that all people, including those with disabilities, can enjoy convenient and safe living.

In particular, last April, to strengthen barrier-free environmental design, BMC signed a partnership agreement for creating barrier-free living environments with the Busan Disabled Persons Association, which possesses technology and know-how related to creating barrier-free spaces, considering socially vulnerable groups. BMC is also enhancing specialized education and inspections for personnel at BMC apartment construction sites, striving to implement barrier-free spaces throughout the entire process of design, construction, and completion.

Additionally, at sites completed last year, BMC has engaged in various social contribution activities, such as recycling leftover smart safety equipment and fire extinguishers instead of discarding them, reusing them at other district construction sites and rental apartments, and using the saved resources to carry out donation projects.

President Kim Yong-hak stated, “Busan Metropolitan Corporation will continue to be a public enterprise that grows and develops together with the local community, sparing no effort to support the improvement of rights, self-sufficiency, independence, and welfare enhancement for people with disabilities,” adding, “We will do our best to create a society where everyone lives well together.”
