A daughter-in-law who tied up her mother-in-law's hands out of frustration after caring for her for about two years while she suffered from dementia was sentenced to a fine.

On the 12th, Judge Sung In-hye of the Criminal Division 8 at Incheon District Court announced that A (48, female), who was charged with violating the Elderly Welfare Act, was sentenced to a fine of 6 million won.

A was charged with repeatedly tying her mother-in-law B's (85) wrists with tape at her home in Bupyeong-gu, Incheon, on May 7 last year. She also shouted at her mother-in-law, who kept touching her face, saying "Stop it" and "I'm struggling too."

It was investigated that A committed the crime out of anger while caring for her mother-in-law, who had dementia, for about two years.

Judge Sung stated, "The defendant assaulted the elderly victim by restraining her," and judged that "the nature of the crime is not good." However, she explained the sentencing by saying, "The defendant admitted the crime and is reflecting on her wrongdoing," and "considering that she took full responsibility for nursing the victim and committed the crime impulsively."
