The video shows the scene of the incident where two foreign car owners were sent to the prosecution on charges of violating the Special Act on Insurance Fraud. The footage captures two foreign cars colliding late at night. One vehicle changing lanes collided head-on with a vehicle going straight. At first glance, it looked like an ordinary accident.
When the accident occurred, the 119 automatic reporting system installed in the vehicle activated, and the fire department and police arrived at the scene. However, the two drivers tried to send the police away, saying, "We are not injured, so we will handle it ourselves," and "We will not file a report but settle through insurance." Due to these statements, the police suspected the possibility of insurance fraud because the accident happened in the early morning hours and the drivers’ suspicious attitude of wanting to handle the accident only through insurance. An investigation was launched. The investigation revealed that the two drivers had prepared and conspired in advance to fraudulently claim insurance money.
The police secured evidence that the two drivers had prepared the crime in advance through analysis of the accident scene and nearby surveillance camera footage. About 30 minutes before the accident, they parked their vehicles near the accident site and were seen conversing, preparing for the intentional accident, as captured by the surveillance cameras. The police sent them to the prosecution on charges of violating the Special Act on Insurance Fraud. The estimated damage caused by their staged accident is about 83 million KRW.
