The foreign seasonal worker program is a system that extends the employment period of foreigners from the existing 5 months to up to 8 months by allowing legal work for up to 3 additional months, addressing the seasonal labor shortage characteristic of the fishing industry. This program greatly helps employers who are struggling with aging and labor shortages.

This year, Yeongdeok-gun, with the cooperation of the Yeongdeok-gun Family Center, invited a total of 70 foreign seasonal workers within the fourth degree of kinship from the home countries of marriage immigrants in the area. After undergoing procedures such as drug testing and industrial accident insurance, they will complete foreigner registration and be assigned to 23 local squid and flounder seafood processing companies.

About 100 people, including company employers, foreign seasonal workers, and multicultural families, will attend this entry training to learn about the provision of appropriate living environments, minimum wage, working hours, management to prevent illegal stay of foreigners, and human rights protection?matters that both employers and workers must comply with.

County Governor Kim Gwang-yeol stated, “This training was prepared to protect the rights of workers and to promote mutual respect and coexistence between employers and workers,” adding, “We will systematically operate the foreign seasonal worker program so that foreign seasonal workers arrive on time every year and stable fishery management can be achieved.”
