Hyundai Motor Company and Ulsan City are joining forces to make Ulsan a hydrogen-friendly city.
On the 12th, Hyundai Motor signed a 'Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for Establishing a Hydrogen Ecosystem in Ulsan' with Ulsan City at the Hyundai Motor Ulsan Plant PR Center in Buk-gu, Ulsan. Key officials, including Hyundai Motor CEO Lee Dong-seok and Ulsan Mayor Kim Doo-gyeom, attended the signing ceremony.
This MOU was established to strengthen the cooperative relationship between Hyundai Motor and Ulsan City across the entire hydrogen value chain?from hydrogen energy production to storage, transportation, supply, and utilization?and to revitalize Ulsan's hydrogen ecosystem.
According to the agreement, Hyundai Motor and Ulsan City will collaborate on ▲ technology development and demonstration for clean hydrogen production such as water electrolysis ▲ research and development to improve efficiency in hydrogen supply and distribution methods ▲ diversification and expansion of hydrogen mobility vehicle types, including hydrogen tractors and hydrogen forklifts, and other projects throughout the hydrogen industry lifecycle.
Additionally, linked with Ulsan City's selection for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's 'Hydrogen City Creation Project Phase 3,' a region-specific project to introduce hydrogen tractors for the first time in Korea will be promoted.
Hyundai Motor and Ulsan City plan to develop hydrogen tractors for freight use and operate three demonstration vehicles on various logistics routes originating from Ulsan to create a hydrogen-based eco-friendly logistics ecosystem.
CEO Lee said, "We will seek continuous cooperation to make Ulsan the center of a hydrogen-friendly city through this agreement. Hyundai Motor will continue comprehensive efforts to build a hydrogen society, including establishing an ecosystem based on hydrogen energy beyond hydrogen mobility."
Mayor Kim stated, "Based on key industries such as automobiles, hydrogen, and secondary batteries, as well as the nation's largest hydrogen infrastructure, we will cooperate with Hyundai Motor to lead a successful transition to a 'leading city of clean hydrogen energy.'"
