Taean County in Chungnam is operating a training program to cultivate professional personnel in order to raise awareness of the importance of the marine environment, a valuable resource for the future.
From the 18th until December 9th, the county will conduct the "Second Half Marine Environment Professional Training Program" every Monday for four weeks at the Oil Spill Recovery Memorial Hall. The program targets 40 participants, including local interpreters, environmental education instructors, and residents. Applications will be accepted from the 11th to the 17th.
This program aims to foster professionals who can promote the necessity of preserving the marine environment. The county explained that it organized this training to strengthen the capabilities of interpreters and environmental education instructors active in various fields and to widely inform residents of the importance of the marine environment.
The training will be conducted over six sessions, covering topics such as: teaching methods and practical training for environmental education II; production and practice of marine environment educational materials; the current status and monitoring of marine microplastics; teaching methods for educating anglers and fishermen about the marine environment; an overview of the marine environment and introduction of works from an artist's perspective; and presentation of educational materials and open discussion by the advisory committee.
The county plans to invite expert instructors in each field, including art artist Jang Hanna, to provide high-quality education.
Applications can be submitted via Naver Form during the registration period or by emailing the person in charge. The training is free of charge, and registration will close once the maximum number of participants is reached.
A county official stated, "We are running this training program in the second half of the year following the first half to build a pool of marine environment professionals through specialized education and capacity building," and added, "We will manage the program carefully to ensure its success and strive to raise awareness of the importance of the marine environment among visitors to the Oil Spill Recovery Memorial Hall."
Meanwhile, since 2017, the Oil Spill Recovery Memorial Hall has been operating as a regional marine environment education center designated by Chungcheongnam-do, providing various contents such as marine environment education for youth and environmental campaigns to residents and visitors, receiving great response.
