Geumcheon-gu Awarded the Grand Prize in the 2024 Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Urban Regeneration Comprehensive Performance Evaluation

Awarded Grand Prize Among 46 Urban Regeneration Projects Hosted by Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport
Completed Projects Over 5 Years Under 4 Themes Since Selection for 2018 Urban Regeneration New Deal Program

Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that it won the Grand Prize at the ‘2024 Urban Regeneration Completion Project Comprehensive Performance Evaluation Competition’ hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

This competition is a large-scale nationwide contest that comprehensively evaluates the achievements of completed urban regeneration projects and selects outstanding case areas.

Among the urban regeneration projects completed in 2023, 46 sites participated, and after preliminary and final presentation evaluations, 10 regions including Geumcheon-gu were selected. Geumcheon-gu was honored with the Grand Prize for the ‘Doksan 1-dong Geumha Village Urban Regeneration New Deal Project.’

The Geumha Village Urban Regeneration New Deal Project was selected in 2018 as part of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s ‘Revitalizing Our Neighborhood’ initiative and was carried out from 2019 to 2023 with a project budget of 12.5 billion KRW.

Geumha Village completed all urban regeneration projects by the end of 2023 under four themes: ▲ Self-sustaining Village Together ▲ Energy Self-reliant Village ▲ Enjoyable Ecological Village ▲ Comfortable and Safe Village. Residents voluntarily participated and successfully achieved various projects.

Major projects included the creation of community-use facilities, support for revitalizing the resident community, improvement of Cheoljjuk Children’s Park, creation of Geumha Forest Trail, and improvement of roads and alley environments. In particular, the establishment and operation of the ‘Eco Energy Center’ for energy self-reliance drew significant attention as a major achievement.

The Eco Energy Center is a hub space for carbon neutrality and energy transition where residents can participate. Inside the center, there are various experiential facilities and programs that allow residents to directly engage in energy saving and environmental protection, including a climate crisis clock.

Additionally, the center is equipped with solar power facilities, a renewable energy experience hall, and a circular economy hall for resource circulation. Visitors can experience and learn the importance of energy saving and carbon neutrality in their daily lives.

Oh Hoe-ok, representative of the Geumha Village Residents’ Council, said, “We are truly happy that the Geumha Village Urban Regeneration Project won the Grand Prize, and it is even more meaningful that the achievements made voluntarily by the residents have been recognized. We will continue to do our best to make Geumha Village an even better place to live.”

Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, “I would like to thank all the residents, including Oh Hoe-ok, the representative of the Geumha Village Residents’ Council, who actively participated in all projects despite the difficult circumstances caused by COVID-19. We will continue to take an interest and support so that our Geumha Village can develop further.”
