Former famous Japanese adult video (AV) actress Aoi Sora (43) has announced her battle with illness.
On the 7th, Aoi Sora revealed on her blog that she is fighting an ovarian cyst. She shared several photos taken from her hospital bed, stating, "I recently underwent surgery to remove an ovarian cyst."
Aoi Sora said, "I was admitted yesterday and scheduled for surgery today," adding, "I underwent detailed tests for cancer, and fortunately, there was no cervical cancer." She continued, "I have had annual health checkups, but this year, an abnormality was found during the cervical cancer screening," explaining, "An ultrasound revealed that the ovarian cyst had grown to 48mm."
She stated, "I have been dealing with ovarian cysts for 10 years and was monitoring the condition, but it suddenly grew rapidly, which was frightening," and added, "After hearing from an acquaintance who suffered severe pain from a similar illness and was rushed by ambulance for emergency surgery, I decided to undergo surgery." She also confessed, "The surgery was completed while I was asleep, but I felt intense pain upon waking up," describing it as "the greatest pain I have experienced in my 43 years of life."
Debuting in 2003 and appearing in numerous adult films, Aoi Sora was loved as a representative AV actress in Japan. After retiring in 2010, she married DJ NON in 2018 and gave birth to twins the following year, dedicating herself to childcare after retirement.
Meanwhile, ovarian cysts are fluid-filled sacs that develop on the ovaries and are classified into functional ovarian cysts, which occur due to problems during the ovulation process, and benign ovarian tumors that arise without a clear cause. Women of reproductive age commonly experience functional ovarian cysts that appear and disappear with hormonal changes during the menstrual cycle. Most ovarian cysts do not cause noticeable symptoms, and many individuals remain unaware of their presence.
However, benign ovarian tumors do not disappear naturally and usually grow larger, causing symptoms such as abdominal bloating, abdominal pain, discomfort during urination or bowel movements, and indigestion. If inflammatory, they can develop into pelvic inflammatory disease. They also affect hormone secretion, leading to menstrual irregularities or vaginal bleeding. If left untreated, they can cause ovulation disorders and make embryo implantation difficult, potentially leading to infertility. Therefore, if suspicious symptoms appear, it is essential to visit a hospital to confirm the presence of ovarian cysts.
