Israel Airstrikes Northern Lebanon... At Least 14 Dead, 15 Injured Yonhap News

On the 11th (local time), the Israeli military conducted airstrikes in northern Lebanon, resulting in approximately 30 casualties.

According to foreign media, a building housing around 30 people, including Syrian refugees, in the northern Lebanese city of Yakub was bombed, killing at least 14 and injuring 15. Yakub is the northernmost point in Lebanon targeted by Israeli airstrikes since the outbreak of the Gaza Strip war following the surprise attack by the Palestinian armed group Hamas on Israel in 2023.

Some Lebanese media reported that the death toll from the Yakub bombing alone reached 30, according to The Times of Israel. The Times of Israel also pointed out that "most Israeli airstrikes were limited to southern Lebanon, the Bekaa Valley, and Beirut," making this target unusual.

The Israeli military claimed that they targeted military facilities where terrorists were located based on accurate information and took measures to minimize civilian casualties.

On the same day, the Lebanese Shiite armed group Hezbollah fired about 90 rockets at the northern Israeli city of Haifa. Israeli rescue authorities reported that some civilians sustained minor injuries from missile fragments and glass shards.

While a ceasefire negotiation between Israel and Lebanon was underway that day, the Israeli side stated that "some progress was made" during the talks. However, Gideon Sa'ar, Israel's Minister of Foreign Affairs, also mentioned that "the war with Hezbollah is not over yet."

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu admitted that he ordered the simultaneous explosion attacks using pagers and radios targeting Hezbollah in September. According to reports from Israeli media such as Ynet, Netanyahu said at a cabinet meeting on the 10th, "The pager operation and the elimination of Hassan Nasrallah were carried out despite opposition from security agencies and political figures."
