A Rolls-Royce vehicle worth hundreds of millions of won was involved in an accident with a truck, and the owner made headlines by declaring that he would not accept the repair costs.
On the 11th, local media such as Jumu News and Jumu News in China reported on a collision between a cargo truck and a pink Rolls-Royce vehicle that occurred on the 7th in Guangzhou. The accident reportedly happened when the truck attempted to overtake the Rolls-Royce, which was waiting at a traffic signal at an intersection. The police, based on nearby closed-circuit (CCTV) footage, determined that the truck driver was fully responsible.
The Rolls-Royce owner, Mr. Joo, got out of the car after confirming that the five passengers were safe immediately after the accident and checked the condition of the vehicle. He took photos of the accident scene with his phone camera and also recorded a video of himself making a comical expression while holding his forehead in front of the car. The truck driver, Mr. Lee, who caused the accident, expected enormous repair costs after seeing the damaged Rolls-Royce bumper and the broken left headlight, but Mr. Joo decided not to accept the repair costs, saying, "Good people will be blessed."
Mr. Joo posted this video on his social networking service (SNS), attracting significant attention online. The video surpassed 3 million likes, and Mr. Joo’s account followers exceeded 1 million. Netizens responded with comments such as, "No matter how rich you are, refusing repair costs is not easy, so this is impressive," and "Mr. Joo will surely be blessed as he said."
However, some netizens raised suspicions, asking, "Did they stage the accident for the video?" In response, Mr. Lee denied the allegations, saying, "I have never met those two people," and explained, "I was very frustrated right after the accident, but Mr. Joo and his wife encouraged me instead, saying, 'You don’t have to compensate. Contact us if you need help.'"
Mr. Joo said, "During the process of reaching an agreement with Mr. Lee, I realized how sincere he is," adding, "He makes a living through driving and is not in a comfortable financial situation. If the insurance handles it, the insurance premium will be more expensive next year." He also added, "Honestly, I haven’t found out the exact repair cost yet, but I have no regrets as this decision was made within a reasonable range."
