According to this announcement, Gwangju City plans to newly designate an animal protection center responsible for the protection and rescue of stray animals in the region and establish a foundation that can meet citizens' demands for pet protection.

The animal protection center designated by the city will primarily handle the rescue, protection, and adoption of stray animals. Additionally, it will check the health status of animals and provide treatment and management programs when necessary to ensure that stray animals receive appropriate care.

The city posted the public notice specifying the conditions for institutions to be designated as animal protection centers on the city hall website, and institutions wishing to apply must meet Gwangju City's facility and personnel requirements.

Applications will be accepted until the 22nd, and after a review process, the institution finally selected will officially perform the role of the animal protection center starting from March 2025.

Mayor Bang Se-hwan said, “The designation of this animal protection center is expected to play a significant role in protecting stray animals and improving pet welfare within Gwangju City,” adding, “We will continue to strengthen animal welfare policies and strive to create an environment where citizens can raise pets with peace of mind.”
