Incheon City announced on the 11th that its project to install an 'Integrated Biogas Facility' for the energy conversion of organic waste has passed the preliminary feasibility study exemption by the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
The facility will produce biogas by integrating the treatment of organic waste such as food waste and sewage sludge in a single facility. Incheon City was selected earlier this year in the Ministry of Environment's contest for integrated biogas facilities.
Since then, the city has completed preliminary administrative procedures such as changes to higher-level plans to expedite the project, and in September submitted a detailed project plan to the Ministry of Economy and Finance and applied for the preliminary feasibility study exemption.
With the exemption from the preliminary feasibility study, which has accelerated the project, Incheon City plans to begin reviewing the project's appropriateness and establishing a basic plan. The total project cost is estimated at 121.4 billion KRW, with completion targeted for March 2030.
The city plans to demolish the anaerobic digesters of the aging Gajwa public sewage treatment facility and build an integrated treatment facility capable of efficiently processing organic waste, while producing and utilizing biogas generated during this process.
