Seoul City Council People Power Party Spokesperson Lee Hyowon Comments on Former Democratic Party Floor Leader's Sexual Misconduct Case on the 11th: "Please Know Shame"
On November 8, the Seoul Administrative Court dismissed the 'Cancellation Lawsuit of the Resolution to Expel Seoul City Council Member' filed by former Democratic Party city council member Jeong Jin-sul against the Seoul Metropolitan Council.
Accordingly, Lee Hyo-won, spokesperson for the People Power Party in the Seoul Metropolitan Council, issued a statement on the 11th regarding the lawsuit result of former Democratic Party city council member Jeong Jin-sul's expulsion cancellation, urging him to feel shame.
The spokesperson stated, "Although it is a very natural decision, it is also a truly bitter scene."
He continued, "The expulsion of a city council member was an unprecedented event in the history of the Seoul Metropolitan Council. More than two-thirds of the council members had no choice but to make the most extreme decision of expulsion against a fellow member because the matter was so horrific that it was difficult to even mention," adding, "Repeated pregnancies and forced abortions in extramarital affairs, assaults on the affair partner, repeated settlements?elements that could only be seen in gangster movies?were full of such shocking details that everyone was stunned."
He also stated, "Five months before the Seoul Metropolitan Council made the expulsion decision, the Democratic Party had already recognized the issue and expelled former council member Jeong Jin-sul from the party membership. However, they kept the reasons for the expulsion secret and maintained strict confidentiality. Given the series of sexual misconduct scandals involving several Democratic Party figures, the repercussions of this issue must have been a significant burden."
The spokesperson criticized, "Moreover, considering that the former Democratic Party leader in the National Assembly was involved in a money envelope scandal, the current leader is on trial for various corruptions and criminal charges, and even Jeong Jin-sul, who was the Democratic Party leader in the Seoul Metropolitan Council, was expelled due to serious sexual misconduct, it would be hard to avoid sarcastic remarks questioning whether having a criminal record is a prerequisite to becoming the Democratic Party leader. Ultimately, the truth was revealed because the woman involved in the affair could no longer endure it and directly reported to the Seoul Metropolitan Council."
He added, "However, former council member Jeong Jin-sul never admitted his wrongdoing. Instead, immediately after being expelled, he filed a 'Cancellation Lawsuit of the Resolution to Expel' and requested a suspension of the expulsion execution. It was likely a defense of 'I cannot lose my council badge over such a trivial matter.'"
The spokesperson further said, "Regarding this first-instance ruling, the plaintiff can file an appeal within two weeks from the day the judgment is delivered. If he continues to ignore his conscience and files a lawsuit to reclaim his council badge, the bitterness will only increase. The shame caused by his own wrongdoing is solely his burden. So now, please, learn to feel shame."
