BMW Korea Expands Anseong Parts Logistics Center
Invests 65 Billion KRW in Electric Vehicle Battery-Dedicated Warehouse
Expanded to Size of 12 Soccer Fields...Parts Storage Capacity Increased by 54%
BMW Korea will invest an additional 65 billion KRW to expand its Anseong parts logistics center, including a dedicated warehouse for electric vehicle batteries. This is to increase the parts storage capacity by more than 50%, ensuring smooth supply of parts delivered nationwide and preparing for the upcoming electrification era.
On the 11th, BMW Korea announced a mid-to-long-term investment plan to expand the Anseong parts logistics center by approximately 31,000㎡ (about 10,000 pyeong) with an additional investment of 65 billion KRW by 2027. With this additional investment, the size of the Anseong logistics center will increase from the current area equivalent to 8 soccer fields (57,000㎡) to 12 soccer fields (88,000㎡). This will be the largest logistics center established by a BMW Group overseas subsidiary.
In 2017, BMW Korea invested about 130 billion KRW to expand and relocate the largest parts logistics center among imported car brands in Korea to Anseong, Gyeonggi Province. With the additional 65 billion KRW investment, the cumulative investment will increase to 195 billion KRW.
The reason BMW Group decided on a large-scale additional investment in Korea is to improve service quality for Korean consumers. Currently, BMW Korea dealers can receive parts by 5 PM on the same day if ordered in the morning, and by 7 AM the next day if ordered in the afternoon. Once this expansion is completed, the parts storage capacity will increase by 54% compared to now, and delivery times are expected to become even faster.
Additionally, BMW Korea has equipped the Anseong parts logistics center with top-tier fire prevention and safety systems in the industry. It is the first in the domestic automotive industry to apply the highest level of fire protection standards from FM Global, the world's largest property insurance company, and all firefighting products used in the center are FM certified.
The warehouse building is equipped with 13,000 Early Suppression Fast Response (ESFR) wet sprinkler heads sensitive to temperature. Furthermore, the building walls are made of non-combustible mineral wool material that maintains high rigidity and safety even in flames, minimizing smoke and toxic gas generation in case of fire. The entire facility also stores 900 tons of firefighting water capable of being sprayed for two hours. BMW Korea plans to equip the upcoming dedicated electric vehicle battery warehouse with the same top-level fire prevention facilities.
The BMW Anseong parts logistics center utilizes big data and demand forecasting algorithms from the AI parts supply system called 'SRD (Supply·Replenishment for Dealership)'. This system analyzes parts demand by season and timing for over 100 official service centers nationwide and automatically supplies parts accordingly.
To protect vast amounts of data, a dual IT system has been established for all wiring and electrical equipment within the facility, and RF (radio frequency) scanners have been introduced to enhance parts management accuracy. Dust-free flooring materials have been used for the health of on-site workers, and all lighting in the facility is equipped with motion sensors to automatically turn on and off. This enables up to 40% energy savings.
A BMW Korea official said, "We will provide not only the highest quality vehicles but also the best service quality for Korean customers," adding, "We will continue to invest in the Korean market to maintain our leadership as the number one imported car brand in Korea."
