Samcheok-si Selected as an 'Excellent Lifelong Learning City' for Consecutive 1st and 2nd Cycles

Samcheok City, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province (Mayor Park Sang-su) announced on the 11th that Samcheok City received the Minister of Education Commendation at the Republic of Korea Lifelong Learning Awards ceremony held on the 8th and was reselected for the 2nd cycle following the 1st cycle as a lifelong learning city.

Samcheok City passed the 2024 (2nd cycle) lifelong learning city re-designation evaluation conducted by the Ministry of Education and the National Institute for Lifelong Education and was selected as an 'Excellent Lifelong Learning City.' On the 8th, at the 2024 re-designation evaluation excellent lifelong learning city awards ceremony held at the Government Sejong Convention Center, it received the Minister of Education institutional commendation.

In this year's (2024) re-designation evaluation, Samcheok City was re-designated as a lifelong learning city and selected as an excellent lifelong learning city, exempting it from the next re-designation evaluation conducted every three years and receiving an excellent lifelong learning city plaque.

Mayor Park Sang-su of Samcheok City said, "We are pleased that Samcheok City's excellent lifelong learning policies and achievements have been externally recognized through this award. We are proud that it proves the effectiveness of the virtuous cycle of lifelong learning?learning, participation, and sharing?that Samcheok City has promoted so far. All of this was made possible thanks to the active participation and efforts of our citizens," and added, "We will continue to strive to guarantee citizens' lifelong learning rights and expand lifelong learning infrastructure."

Meanwhile, Samcheok City was designated as the first lifelong learning city in Gangwon Province in July 2006. After being re-designated as a 'Lifelong Learning City' in the 2021 (1st cycle) lifelong learning city re-designation evaluation, it was re-designated as a 'Lifelong Learning City' and selected as an 'Excellent Lifelong Learning City' in this year's 2024 (2nd cycle) re-designation evaluation. Including Samcheok City, six local governments were selected as 'Excellent Lifelong Learning Cities': Gwangmyeong City and Siheung City in Gyeonggi Province, Gimje City in Jeonbuk Province, Gongju City and Dangjin City in Chungnam Province.
