Gongju City, Chungnam Province, announced on the 11th that it received the Prime Minister's Award at the 21st Korea Lifelong Learning Awards hosted by the Ministry of Education.
The city received high praise for presenting an innovative lifelong learning model called "Creating a Lifelong Learning Ecosystem Connecting Time, Space, and People," aimed at guaranteeing universal learning rights for citizens and building an inclusive lifelong learning system.
The main initiatives include: lifelong learning programs tailored to every citizen's life stage; a lifelong learning city of shared heritage and inclusiveness without regional boundaries; and the creation of citizen-led learning networks and inclusive learning environments.
In particular, all human and material resources in Gongju were connected through a public-private-academic network to support life and learning at each stage of childhood, adolescence, and adulthood.
Additionally, the Lifelong Education Council in each town and district proposed a direction that connects villages and people, ensuring that learning continues as an integral part of life.
Meanwhile, since being designated a lifelong learning city in 2016, Gongju has established a lifelong learning delivery system, including the Lifelong Learning Center and the Lifelong Learning Centers in each town and district, as well as the Goma Learning Naru.
This year, among 64 cities evaluated for the second cycle of lifelong learning city assessment, six cities, including Gongju, were selected as excellent lifelong learning cities, and Gongju City received a commendation and plaque from the Minister of Education.
A city official stated, "The entire city of Gongju serves as a learning space, and the Paleolithic, Baekje royal capital, and modern and contemporary historical, cultural, and humanistic resources are shared heritage without regional boundaries. We will do our best to ensure that a lifelong learning ecosystem in which all citizens actively participate becomes the driving force for Gongju's future growth."
