'Visiting Senior Centers CPR Training' and Installation of Automated External Defibrillators in Senior Centers
Geumcheon-gu Health Center, Continuous Operation of Visiting CPR and Permanent Training Centers
Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that it is conducting visiting cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training for elderly residents at senior centers in the area, where the incidence of cardiac arrest is high among the elderly population.
According to statistics from the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency's 'Acute Cardiac Arrest Survey,' survival rates more than double and brain function recovery rates increase by more than 2.6 times when a bystander performs CPR, highlighting the importance of cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Accordingly, the district prepared the training to help elderly people respond quickly in actual emergency situations.
The training was conducted to allow the elderly to directly experience the use of automated external defibrillators (AED) and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). The focus was on practical exercises to learn necessary emergency response methods such as ▲ how to respond when cardiac arrest occurs ▲ how to perform basic CPR ▲ how to use an AED.
An elderly participant in the training said, “Having actually learned CPR, which I only saw on TV, I gained confidence that I can save lives in critical situations,” and added, “I hope this kind of training continues regularly.”
In addition to senior centers, the district is expanding CPR training to local children's centers, companies, and legally mandated education recipients. The district health center’s permanent training room offers sessions every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, Parkmi Health Branch holds training on the second Monday of each month, and Doksan Health Branch conducts training on the second Tuesday of each month.
All training is provided free of charge. Training schedules can be checked on the Geumcheon-gu Office Health Center website, and applications can be made online or by phone.
Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, stated, “CPR training that enables quick response in emergencies plays an important role in protecting the lives of elderly residents,” and added, “We will continue to expand various first aid trainings and the installation of automated external defibrillators (AED) to create a safer Geumcheon-gu.”
Meanwhile, the district conducts regular inspections of automated external defibrillators (AED) at least once a month and real-time checks through an AED management app for systematic management.
