Gwanak-gu Expands Intelligent CCTV and Supports Safety Equipment to Create a 'Crime-Free Gwanak'

Expansion of Over 380 Intelligent CCTVs in 155 Crime-Vulnerable Areas by March 2025
Real-Time Response to Various Incidents at CCTV Integrated Control Center...Support for Smart Doorbells, Home Cameras, Door Safety Devices, and Police Whistles for Single-Person Crime-Vulnerable Households

Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) is making every effort to create an environment where all 500,000 residents can live safely and securely 365 days a year.

First, the district plans to expand intelligent CCTV cameras utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) analysis technology at the CCTV Smart Integrated Control Center for residents' safety, increasing to about 380 units across 155 locations by March 2025.

The intelligent CCTVs are installed at optimal locations selected through a comprehensive survey by the ‘Neighborhood Crime Blind Spot Investigation Council’ and big data analysis. They are expected to contribute not only to crime prevention but also to the resolution of various incidents and accidents.

The intelligent CCTV recognizes and analyzes objects on servers installed at the control center and automatically displays alerts to the control center when incidents such as loitering, intrusion, or collapse occur. This allows control operators to immediately identify and respond to emergency situations that might otherwise go unnoticed.

Currently, the district operates 6,556 CCTV cameras linked to the control center across 2,036 locations, with 16 control operators working in four teams on three shifts to monitor residents' safety in real time 24 hours a day.

Among these, about 2,254 are intelligent CCTVs, and the district plans to continuously increase the proportion of intelligent CCTVs through ongoing expansion.

Additionally, the district supports emergency dispatch, assistance for socially vulnerable groups, and rapid response to disaster situations by linking selected CCTV video information from the CCTV Integrated Control Center with the fire station, police station, and others in real time through the ‘Smart City Integrated Platform,’ which connects to emergency numbers 112 and 119.

So far, the Gwanak-gu CCTV Integrated Control Center has collaborated with the police to resolve about 80 incidents and accidents in 2024, significantly contributing to preventing larger accidents. Notably, recently, when a report was made that a ‘lost child was being protected,’ the center tracked the child's movements and safely handed the child over to their guardian. Also, upon receiving a drug suspicion report, the center relayed the suspect’s movements to the police, aiding in the arrest of a drug offender.

Alongside this, the district plans to continue the ‘Single-Person Household Safety Equipment Support Project’ aimed at preventing various daily life risks for single-person households vulnerable to crime.

This year’s safety equipment set of four items includes a ‘Smart Doorbell’ that allows real-time monitoring of the front door via a mobile phone, a ‘Home Camera’ for real-time monitoring of the interior of the house even when away, a ‘Front Door Safety Device’ that prevents external intrusion and door opening, and a ‘Police Whistle’ equipped with a whistle and warning light functions for use in emergencies.

Last year, the district provided safety equipment sets to 548 households, and this year about 430 households have been supported.

Mayor Park Jun-hee stated, “To provide residents with a comfortable daily life, we will take a step further toward creating a crime-free safe city, Gwanak, through the expansion of intelligent CCTVs and support for safety equipment. Going forward, the district will continue to develop more detailed policies for residents’ safety and do its best to protect the happy daily lives of our citizens.”
