Yongin City to Introduce in Front of 3 Elementary Schools Next Year
Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 11th that it will introduce a system early next year that uses AI-based smart video technology to notify when vehicles passing through intersections in school zones violate stop lines.
This system, designed to ensure the safety of pedestrians crossing crosswalks, is a convergence guidance system that detects whether vehicles comply with stop lines and broadcasts the information in real-time on electronic display boards.

The system consists of a vehicle license plate reader, vehicle speed detector, computer server, data collection devices (such as signal detection sensors), and video networking equipment. The principle is to collect the traffic light color using signal detection sensors and vehicle license plate numbers using the license plate reader. When the traffic light is red and a vehicle crosses the stop line, the license plate number and video are displayed, while during green signals, traffic law compliance information is broadcast on the electronic display board.
The city plans to install electronic display boards in the first quarter of next year at Nagok Elementary, Guseong Elementary, and Sinreung Elementary Schools in Giheung District, where traffic accidents in school zones have been frequent over the past three years. This project is part of the "School Zone Safe Commute Route Creation Project," funded by a special disaster safety grant. The total project cost, including national and city funds, is 420 million KRW.
A city official expressed expectations that "the introduction of this system will greatly help drivers maintain vigilance while driving in school zones."
