Opening of 'Wonji Park Library' in Daerim 3-dong, Yeongdeungpo-gu

Official Opening of Daerim 3-dong Wonji Park Library on November 12... A 180-pyeong 'Library for All' Established... Tailored for Middle-Aged Generation (50s-60s) Based on Local Demographics... Offers Various Programs Reflecting Interests in Retirement Life, Elderly Preparation, Health, and Travel

Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that the ‘Wonji Park Library’ located in Daerim 3-dong will officially open after a one-week pilot operation starting November 12.

Wonji Park Library is an open cultural complex space that anyone in the community can freely use in their daily lives. It aims to establish itself as a ‘library for all’ by offering various uniquely designed spaces and cultural programs tailored for different generations.

Spanning approximately 596㎡ (about 180 pyeong) across four above-ground floors, Wonji Park Library is composed of spaces with distinct themes and functions on each floor, allowing residents to use the facilities according to their individual needs.

The first floor is an open communication space designed to lower the threshold of the library, featuring a book caf? and community area where anyone can visit freely and relax. The second floor is a ‘dream space’ for children, equipped with soundproof panels so kids can read books out loud without restraint.

The third floor offers an open reading room tailored to various study and reading styles, providing a comfortable atmosphere similar to a study caf?. The fourth floor includes individual study spaces for focused learning, program rooms, and exhibition areas, making it a complex cultural space where residents can enjoy not only reading but also arts and cultural activities.

In particular, reflecting the characteristics of Daerim 3-dong, where many middle-aged and senior residents (in their 50s and 60s) live, the district plans to prepare various cultural programs on themes such as ‘life after retirement,’ ‘health,’ and ‘travel’ that will interest this age group. Through this, the district hopes that Wonji Park Library will become a cultural hub where residents can comfortably stay and communicate anytime as part of their daily lives.

Wonji Park Library will be fully open to residents starting with the opening ceremony on November 12. To commemorate the opening, the district plans to hold an opening event for a month under the theme ‘Self-development that does not forget one’s true self.’

The opening event includes various cultural programs such as exhibitions, acrylic painting, meetings with authors, and literary lectures, along with events offering small prizes. Detailed information can be found on the Yeongdeungpo District Public Library website.

Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, said, “I hope Wonji Park Library becomes a cultural resting place that embraces all generations and tastes, where any resident can comfortably visit,” and added, “We will continue to do our best to provide residents with diverse cultural experiences and learning opportunities.”
