Replacement of 2.5km Aging Water Pipes and Installation of 415m New Pipeline
Mayor Baek Gyeong-hyeon: "We Will Supply Tap Water That Citizens Can Trust and Drink Safely"
The city of Guri, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Baek Kyung-hyun) announced on the 10th that it is promoting a project to repair aging water pipes to provide citizens with a stable supply of clear and clean tap water.
The city has established a basic plan for repairing aging water pipes in advance to improve efficient water retention rates and minimize citizen inconvenience caused by water outages due to sinkholes from leaks. Each year, it carefully reviews the timing of pipe installation and leak occurrences by water supply zones to select project sites.
This year, with a total project cost of 4 billion KRW, the city is replacing approximately 2.5 km of aging water pipes, installing 415 meters of new pipes, and rehabilitating 405 meters of existing pipes. Currently, about 90% of the work is underway, and all tasks are planned to be completed by the end of this year.
In 2025, a budget of 3.5 billion KRW has been allocated to carry out repair work on 3.2 km of aging water pipes.
Mayor Baek Kyung-hyun of Guri said, “Through this project, we expect a significant improvement in water supply quality and water retention rates,” adding, “We will continue to pay special attention to repairing aging water pipes to ensure the supply of tap water that all citizens can trust and drink.”
