The KMA Delegate Assembly began the extraordinary general meeting at 2 p.m. on the 10th at the KMA headquarters in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, with agenda items including the formation of a special committee for no-confidence against President Im.

President Im has recently been criticized for derogatory remarks about disabled people, demands for withdrawal of lawsuits in exchange for favors, and failing to achieve significant results amid ongoing medical-government conflicts lasting over 10 months.

According to KMA regulations, a no-confidence motion against the president can be initiated by at least one-quarter of voting members or one-third of the total delegates, and requires attendance of two-thirds of the total delegates and approval by two-thirds of the attending delegates to pass.

According to KMA bylaws, if the no-confidence motion passes, President Im will be immediately suspended from duty, and a by-election must be held within 60 days. The approximately two-month executive vacancy until a new president is elected through the by-election is expected to be filled by the special committee formed at the extraordinary general meeting.

However, even if the no-confidence motion is rejected, the formation of the special committee can still be approved, in which case the representation of the KMA may shift to the chairperson of the special committee.
