Husband Dies After 7 Days of Treatment in ICU
Wife Suffers Burns on 69% of Body... Unaware of Husband's Death
A Chinese man, who suffered severe burns on more than 90% of his body, was captured on video running into a burning house to save his wife. The man was taken to the hospital but ultimately passed away.
Recently, foreign media including Hong Kong's South China Morning Post (SCMP) and Jimu News reported on a tragic accident involving Mr. Liu and his wife, residents of Luoyang City, Henan Province, China, which occurred on the 10th of last month. At the time of the fire, they were preparing breakfast. When they turned on the gas stove as usual, an explosion occurred, and flames quickly engulfed the couple.
As a result, the husband's body caught fire, and he was pushed outside the house by the force of the explosion. However, he ran back into the flames to save his wife, who was still in the kitchen. At that time, Mr. Liu had already sustained severe burns on about 92% of his body. Fortunately, he managed to pull his wife outside to safety and then lost consciousness and collapsed shortly afterward.

Mr. Liu was immediately taken to the hospital and fought for his life in the intensive care unit for seven days without regaining consciousness but eventually died. His wife suffered burns on 69% of her body and is currently hospitalized for treatment. Although she had difficulty communicating, she asked about her husband's condition in writing as soon as she regained consciousness. Their son could not bring himself to tell her that her husband had died, so he lied that her father was safe.
The media reported, "The Liu family has already spent 300,000 yuan (approximately 58 million KRW) on medical expenses and is now facing financial difficulties," adding, "They need an additional 700,000 yuan (approximately 136 million KRW) for further treatment, so they are appealing for help through the media." It is known that the Liu couple has a son who recently graduated from university and started working, as well as a daughter who is still a student.
Local netizens who learned of this story responded with comments such as "A true image of a family head," "The husband must have loved his wife very much," "I hope this family overcomes this hardship," and "So heartbreaking."
