Bitcoin Latest Trends and More Highlights
North Korean hackers are reportedly using phishing emails to steal cryptocurrency.
According to Decrypt, a cryptocurrency-focused media outlet, SentinelLabs, a research institute under the IT company SentinelOne, analyzed in a report on the 7th (local time) that hackers supported by the North Korean regime have launched a so-called 'Hidden Risk' operation, infiltrating malware disguised as legitimate documents into cryptocurrency companies.
The report states that this operation is carried out by 'Bluenoroff,' a subgroup of the hacker group 'Lazarus,' which belongs to North Korea's Reconnaissance General Bureau.
The hackers send phishing emails that appear to be cryptocurrency-related notifications to employees of cryptocurrency exchanges or financial platforms. These phishing emails are disguised as Bitcoin price updates or the latest trends related to DeFi (decentralized finance), enticing victims to click on links that appear to be legitimate PDF documents.
When victims click the link, a malicious application is downloaded onto their computers.
The new malware distributed by North Korean hackers via email is also known to cleverly bypass security features built into Apple's macOS operating system.
