Dongducheon City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Park Hyeong-deok) is operating 13 smart bus shelters equipped with air conditioning and heating systems, fans, windbreak facilities, and public wireless internet (Wi-Fi), by adding 8 new locations this year to the existing 5. The city also announced on the 8th that it plans to gradually increase the number of smart bus shelters to improve transportation convenience for citizens.
By October 31, the city completed inspections and pilot operations of bus shelters to thoroughly prepare for the cold wave during the winter season. Through this inspection, to enhance transportation convenience for citizens using buses in winter, the city has started operating 45 heated seats at bus shelters, 13 heating devices at smart shelters, and 13 electric windbreak curtains within the jurisdiction.
The heated seats installed at major bus shelters automatically heat up to 33 degrees Celsius when the temperature drops below 26 degrees Celsius. The heating devices at the 13 smart bus shelters operate from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., providing a warm public transportation environment for citizens using buses during the cold winter season.
Mayor Park Hyeong-deok of Dongducheon said, "We hope that the operation of heating devices at smart shelters and heated seats at bus shelters will help citizens use public transportation warmly during the cold winter, and we will strive to minimize inconveniences for bus users."
