Gijang-gun Distributes High-Quality Gijang Seaweed Seeds Produced In-House... Expected to Increase Fisheries Income

Research on Seaweed Seed Production and Dissemination of 760 Frame Aquaculture

Continuous Research and Production of Miyeok Seeds Suitable for Gijang Waters

Gijang-gun (Governor Jeong Jong-bok) announced on the 8th that it has distributed seaweed seedlings, produced independently through the "Gijang-type Seaweed Seedling Production Research," to local fisheries sites at the county's Fisheries Resource Research Center on the 7th.

For seaweed seedling production, seawater temperature must be maintained below 24℃, but this year, due to prolonged high water temperatures, the production of seaweed seedlings has sharply declined nationwide.

Amid these challenging conditions, the research center succeeded in producing 1,200 high-quality seaweed seedling frames by improving water quality and cultivation management methods, and has distributed 760 frames of seedlings that completed the first offshore transplantation to aquaculture fishermen.

Gijang-gun Distributes High-Quality Gijang Seaweed Seeds Produced In-House... Expected to Increase Fisheries Income Fishermen are being distributed seaweed seedlings produced in-house by the Gijang-gun Fisheries Resources Research Center.

Additionally, in December, seedlings that complete the second offshore transplantation will be distributed along with kelp and Sargassum seedlings.

The county plans to continuously monitor the growth status of the distributed seaweed seedlings until harvest and reflect the findings in future research for producing high-quality Gijang-type seedlings.

Jeong Jong-bok, Governor of Gijang-gun, stated, "Due to environmental changes in coastal waters caused by abnormal temperatures such as recent high water temperatures, the production of seaweed seedlings has sharply decreased, raising concerns about the decline in seaweed growth and mass mortality. We will continue research and distribution of high-quality Gijang-type seaweed seedlings to help increase the income of local fishermen."
