Goyang Special City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) announced on the 8th that it held the 6th Jikso Civil Petition Day and had a communication session with parent representatives of Naeyu, Geumgye, and Ogeum Elementary Schools to address the issue of long-distance commuting for elementary students and improve the commuting environment.

Currently, students at these schools have to commute distances ranging from 1.5 km to up to 2.7 km. Parents have requested budget support for school buses to ensure that students can commute safely and conveniently.

Naeyu Elementary School has a wide residential distribution, resulting in long commuting distances for students. Some main commuting routes lack separation between sidewalks and roadways, and heavy vehicle traffic makes the environment prone to safety accidents for students.

At Geumgye Elementary School, the commuting distance from Ilsan Yojin Y City to Geumgye Elementary School is long. Although a school bus was operated using the Goyang Environmental Energy Facility Resident Support Fund, budget support has been suspended due to changes in the project.

Ogeum Elementary School faces difficulties as the distance is too far for elementary students to walk from Samsong Xi the Village and Hillstate Rapiano Samsong complexes.

The school bus support project is primarily funded by the Goyang Office of Education budget according to the 'Gyeonggi-do Student Commuting Support Ordinance.' Goyang City plans to continuously communicate and strengthen cooperation with parents in collaboration with the Office of Education to create a safe commuting environment for students.

Mayor Lee Dong-hwan of Goyang Special City stated, “The safe commuting of children to and from school is a matter of utmost importance. The city will actively communicate with the Goyang Office of Education and parents to seek the best solutions.”
