Busan National University LINC 3.0 Project Group Hosts the 2nd Specialized Industry-Based Regional Settlement Forum

On the 7th at BEXCO Busan, Seven Yeongnam Region LINC 3.0 Universities Gathered

Development Directions for Local Universities' Role and Youth Regional Settlement in Response to Local Extinction Crisis

Pusan National University (President Choi Jae-won) announced on the 8th that the "2nd Specialized Industry-Based Regional Settlement Forum," hosted by the Specialized Industry-Based Regional Settlement Research Association and organized by the Pusan National University 3rd Phase Industry-Academic Cooperation Leading University Development Project Group (LINC 3.0), was held on the 7th at BEXCO Exhibition Hall 2 in Busan.

The Specialized Industry-Based Regional Settlement Research Association is a consortium of seven universities in the Yeongnam region, including four-year universities and junior colleges (Pusan National University, Busan Institute of Science and Technology, Geoje University, Ulsan University, Ulsan College of Science, Keimyung University, Keimyung Culture University), and the Local Era Committee. It was established to support the creation of a regional development ecosystem based on the Industry Collaboration Support Center (ICC) aimed at fostering local talent, employment and entrepreneurship, and settlement in local universities participating in LINC 3.0, thereby promoting regional economic growth.

The event was held under the theme "The Role of Local Universities and Youth Regional Settlement" to address the crisis of local extinction due to population decline, aging, and weak regional economic power. Jin-woo Oh, Planning Deputy Director of the Industry-Academic Cooperation Group at Pusan National University, served as the chair, with participation from vice presidents of the seven universities, LINC 3.0 project leaders, and members of the Local Era Committee, who engaged in discussions on the challenges faced by regional universities based on specialized local industries and solutions to regional social issues.

Additionally, Professor Seong-jin Park of Pohang University of Science and Technology, a member of the Presidential Committee on Local Era and an advisor to POSCO Holdings, delivered a keynote speech on "Revitalizing Regional Settlement through the Creation of a Venture Ecosystem Based on Industry-Academic-Research Cooperation." Yoon Seok-yong, CEO of Disec representing companies in the Gyeongnam region, gave a thematic presentation on "Specialized Local Industries and Regional Settlement."

Jung-eun Kang, Director of the Pusan National University LINC 3.0 Project Group, stated, "This forum will be a valuable opportunity to propose policy measures for creating a regional settlement environment at the university level and to redefine the role of regional universities, laying the foundation for co-growth through regional innovation."
