A Total of 39 Locations This Year... 125 Locations Improved Cumulatively
POSCO 1% Sharing Foundation announced on the 8th that it held the 'Hope Space' plaque ceremony in Gwangyang on the 7th.
The Hope Space project is one of the foundation's flagship initiatives launched in 2019, aimed at improving the environments of facilities for the disabled and homes of children with disabilities to provide safe and comfortable spaces. Starting this year, the scope of the project has been expanded to include not only facilities related to the disabled but also aging public facilities such as village halls in the Pohang and Gwangyang areas that require assistance.
The foundation received applications for the Hope Space project through Pohang and Gwangyang city halls and administrative welfare centers, with a total of 53 submissions. On-site evaluations were conducted based on urgency and safety criteria, and after a final review with project selection committee members and city officials, 29 facilities for the disabled and their homes, as well as 10 local public facilities, were selected as support targets.
The foundation identified necessary improvements for each location, such as space expansions, exterior wall replacements, and installation of ramps and handrails, and carried out customized remodeling, completing improvements at all selected sites.
Choi Young, Head of POSCO Sustainability Management Office, said, "Through the Hope Space project, we expect to help improve the quality of life for socially vulnerable groups such as the elderly and disabled by providing convenience in their daily lives."
