Incheon District Court Sentences to 1 Year Imprisonment
Prosecution Also Appeals Saying "First Trial Sentence Is Too Low"
The manager of a nightlife establishment, who is on trial for extorting 300 million won from the late actor Lee Seon-gyun, has appealed the first trial verdict in which she was sentenced for drug use.
On the 7th, Yonhap News reported that the nightlife manager A (30, female) submitted an appeal to the Incheon District Court the day before. A was sentenced to one year in prison on the 31st of last month for charges related to marijuana and psychotropic substances under the Narcotics Control Act. Doctor B (43, male), who was sentenced to two years in prison for providing drugs to A and using them himself, also appealed immediately after the verdict. Both are known to hold the position that "the sentencing by the first trial court was excessively harsh and unfair."

On the other hand, the prosecution, which requested two years in prison for A and four years for B, also filed a cross-appeal, arguing that "the first trial sentence was excessively lenient." The prosecution explained, "The part where B was acquitted of some charges was a factual error by the court." Since both the defendants and the prosecution have appealed, the second trial of this case is expected to be held at the Seoul High Court. Once the first trial court organizes and transfers the case records, the appellate court will be assigned.
A, who has six prior convictions including drug offenses, was arrested and indicted for using methamphetamine or smoking marijuana three times between March and August last year. B was indicted for providing methamphetamine and ketamine to A three times at his hospital in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, from December 2022 to August last year. He is also charged with smoking marijuana alternately with an acquaintance at an apartment in Seongdong-gu, Seoul, on January 17, 2021, and purchasing 1 million won worth of liquid marijuana through an acquaintance near the hospital in June of the same year.
Meanwhile, A is also currently on trial for extortion, accused of threatening actor Lee last September and extorting 300 million won. In September last year, A called Lee Seon-gyun, saying, "My phone was hacked and I am being threatened; I need money to keep quiet," and received money before his death. Police investigations revealed that the hacker who threatened A at the time was former actress C (29, female), who lived in the same apartment and was close to A.
