The Oil Corporation has been continuously carrying out the ‘G9 KNOC Plogging,’ an activity involving exercise and picking up litter, since 2022 in its headquarters and nine storage branch locations.

This year, the activity officially started in March, and in November, intensive environmental cleanup efforts are planned around all business sites of the Oil Corporation.

‘G9’ symbolizes the connection of nine cities where the Oil Corporation’s headquarters and storage bases are located, inspired by the letter G from the English word Green and the fact that there are nine storage base cities in total.

In July, the Oil Corporation signed a regional development business agreement related to the East Sea deep-sea gas field development with Gyeongbuk Province and Pohang City, and in September, it opened a Mutual Development Cooperation Center at Pohang City Hall.

This plogging event was conducted as part of implementing the agreement, jointly with about 20 local residents including Pohang City Hall officials, Odori 2-ri fishing village cooperative, and the Gyeongbuk branch of the Korea Maritime Rescue Association’s plogging volunteer team. Through this plogging activity, the Oil Corporation collected various wastes such as plastic bags, disposable products, and discarded plastics around the Pohang coast, contributing to creating a clean and pleasant marine environment.

A representative of the Oil Corporation said, “We hope that many people will become interested in eco-friendly activities through today’s event,” and added, “The Corporation will continue to carry out plogging activities together with local governments and residents to create a pleasant and clean living environment.”

In addition, the Oil Corporation is practicing ESG management by promoting various eco-friendly programs such as the carbon neutrality campaign in daily life ‘Green Life, Save Earth,’ creating carbon sinks by planting trees at storage branches, and operating waste recycling programs with local communities.
